Gingerbread House

I've been blogging for so long that it has become a habit for me. We do something as a family, and then I blog about it to document it and share it with friends and family. Even when life is crazy, I still do it - just like I grab a can of pop to drink with breakfast every day, check the cats' food bowl after dinner and absentmindedly turn on Friends to watch right before I fall asleep. Of course, the bad thing about habits is once you break them, it can be hard to get back on track. Having not blogged in over a week, I'm struggling to sit down at the computer today to sort through photos and get some posts written up. So, sorry for the fact that my Christmas posts are going to fall well into the start of 2012 when everyone else has moved on to new things!

But come on, you can never view too many pictures of smiling kids opening gifts, can you? Kidding, of course! So here I go...backing up to BEFORE Christmas...

One of our 25 Days of Christmas activities this year was to make a Gingerbread House. Mike and the kids love doing this. It really isn't my thing. I'd probably want to make a very orderly house with all the candy in nice straight (and boring) lines, which isn't much fun for the kiddos so I long ago handed this particular activity off to Mike to manage. (He is also less likely to tell them to stop eating the candy that is suppose to go on the house!)

K got a little practice at making gingerbread houses because she went to a Gingerbread House party at a friend's house. The table was lined with little houses made out of graham crackers, one for each girl. Each guest brought a bag of candy, which was placed in a bowl in the center of the table for decorating. The girls had a great time making gingerbread houses and then enjoying cocoa and a holiday movie.

A few days later, it was time for us to drag out the Gingerbread House kit. (Yes, we totally cheat and buy a kit at Costco each year. I highly recommend it.)

Yes, G is wearing glasses in this picture. This is a very new thing for us. I think this day might have been his first or second day with the glasses. I'm spending a lot of time saying "G, where are your glasses? Please put them ON." I think this will take some getting used to, but they were definitely needed.

Here they are with the finished house, which was the perfect centerpiece for our Christmas morning breakfast.

I'm participating in Sunday Snapshot over at Ni Hao Y'all. Come join in the fun!

I love the gingerbread house! It is a tradition for us as well! And as for the blogging Christmas well into the new year, I think that is just fine, so is taking a break from blogging! I think I posted once last week...
